PROJECT SYMPHOGEAR -next-

PROJECT SYMPHOGEAR -next- is the title of a multimedia project for the Senki Zesshō Symphogear franchise that was announced following the end of Senki Zesshō Symphogear XV.

The project consists of a cinematic production, as well as new music sub-projects featured at select venues.

History[]

On 20 November 2022, a new project for the franchise was teased at the end of the Symphogear Live 2020 → 2022 concert.

Further details were revealed on 1 December 2023 via social media platform X. The project was named as "PROJECT SYMPHOGEAR -next-", and it was announced that the franchise would continue through a cinematic production as well as a "new music project".[1][2]

On 28 June 2024, it was announced that Symphogear would have a booth exhibited during Comiket 104 on 11–12 August 2024, at Tokyo Big Sight South Hall 4, No. 2532. This exhibition would feature a reimagining of the characters and music in retro-style pixel art and chiptune/8-bit music, while specifying that this would not be a game project, and that the details of another new music project would also be revealed.[3]

On 19 July 2024, it was elaborated that Symphogear would hold its first DJ booth at its Comiket exhibition, in relation to "PROJECT SYMPHOGEAR -next-", and feature club arrangements of previously-released Symphogear music. The chiptune project was also named as Symphogear BB (シンフォギアBB?).[Notes 1] New merchandise based on this project was announced to be sold at Comiket, including a mook (magazine book) with a 25-track album of remixed songs.[4]

On 26 July 2024, a Japan-exclusive "follow and repost" lottery campaign was announced to take place on X from 26 July to 12 August. The winner of this campaign is to receive a copy of the mook, without bonuses such as the CD, personally signed by Aoi Yūki, Hibiki Tachibana's voice actress.[5]

Additionally, merchandise for Symphogear BB was announced to be available for online ordering via the Aria E-Store from 11 to 25 August, for residents of Japan only. However, some items will only be sold at the Comiket exhibition.[6]

The time schedule for the DJ booth was announced on 2 August 2024.[7] Details for the new chiptune remix CD, titled "Senki Zesshō Symphogear BB: Dr Ver no Yabō Original Soundtrack" (戦姫絶唱シンフォギアBB Dr.ウェルの野望 オリジナルサウンドトラック?), were also revealed, with a YouTube video previewing the music alongside mock footage of an 8-bit game version of Symphogear G.[8][9]

On 9 August 2024, another new music sub-project, titled "SYMPHO&GEAR", was announced. This project is intended to expand the music and worldview of the series, as well as provide a new way to enjoy the music with a fresh approach evoked by the keywords "symphony" and "gear".

As part of this project, an event titled "SYMPHOGEAR NIGHT -GEARMANIA- ver.HIBIKI" was held at the nightclub, Sel Octagon Tokyo, on 6 October 2024. It featured multiple DJs and a special DJ event starring Hibiki Tachibana.[10] Following this event, a second installment, titled "SYMPHOGEAR NIGHT -GEARMANIA- ver.CHRIS", was announced to be held on 28 December 2024.[11]
