Yae- Ya-ha-ye-ie)

(All things must pass—ya, ya-ha-ye—in the cycle of rebirth)
(Transcend life and death—ya, ya-ha-ye—for that freedom is bliss)
(Ame no Habakiri; yae, ya-ha-ye-ie)

First comes the sword akin to the wind, faster than lightning

Second comes the sword akin to the forest, for nothingness lies within

What the nightly pandemonium fears
Is their own immaturity reflected in the water
Who shall act, if I do not?
Awaken, O peerless blue that crushes evil

Thousands, millions, billions of lives—
I grasp them all tight and brandish their blade
Do you have such resolve to perish nobly
In a flash of freezing rupture?

The night sky is fragrant with a new moon
Whose crescent resembles the point of my blade
Come, as is usual—may you burn to ashes
In the fire of my sword

Third comes the sword akin to a flame of wrath, raging indelibly for eternity

Fourth comes the sword akin to a great mountain, its heart unshakeable by all

Though I decided I shall never cry again
I'll let weep my spurting hot blood
This sentinel's song is the fūrinkazan[Notes 1]
Have you yet finished reciting the nianfo…?[Notes 2]

You will repent, smashed to smithereens
Alongside your ridiculous tomfoolery
At least, in the end, live with the samurai
And descend to a beautiful hell

Conversely, let me ask: is there something
Within your heart that you will not yield?
Come, as is usual—let the journey to Nirvana[Notes 3]
Purify your sins

All things… must pass…

Thousands, millions, billions of lives—
I grasp them all tight and brandish their blade
Do you have such resolve to perish nobly
In a flash of freezing rupture?

The night sky is fragrant with a new moon
Whose crescent resembles the point of my blade
Come, as is usual—these wings crying in the wind
Will now soar forth

Trivia[]

  • The chant at the beginning of the song quotes a Japanese translation of verses from the Nirvana Sutra. The Nirvana Sutra is an influential Sanskrit scripture that describes many of the key principles of Buddhism.
    • This section of the sutra is rumored to be the origin of the iroha, a classical pangram quoted in Tsubasa's first character song, Zettō Ame no Habakiri.
